Denmark’s Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, celebrates the tenth year of their online gambling liberation with one of the key elements being ROFUS. The register of self-excluded players known as ROFUS has more than 30,000 registered Danish players. Since its roll-out in 2012, numbers have increased tremendously with the past couple of years bringing a consistent number of new registers.

DGA announced that they are experiencing problems with their ROFUS online system and that players need to use a manual process if they wish to register.

The usual procedure for Danes is to access the ROFUS program and register with their NemID. DGA explains that the NemID registration is out of order and registered players cannot check their status either. This is a very concerning issue for players with potential gambling problems.

What is NemID?

NemID is a digital identification system used in Denmark which enables citizens to access online services with ease. Launched in 2010 in partnership with the country’s Agency for Digitisation, the NemID will be replaced by the MitID although it is unclear when the transition will take place.

Denmark’s register of self-excluded players allows gamblers to take a break from online and land-based casinos licensed in Denmark. Registered players may choose to exclude themselves for 24 hours, for a couple of months, or permanently. Those who choose a permanent exclusion may apply with Danish authorities to re-enter gambling, one year after the exclusion request.

In the first year of its existence, ROFUS recorded slightly less than 1,500 registrations and this number marginally increased each year until 2016. Since then, the register recorded over 4,000 new members each year, with 2019/2020 and 2017/2018 having the highest increases.

DGA ascribes this to the widespread awareness campaigns and obligatory inclusion of ROFUS in operator marketing. Since January 2020, gambling operators must refer to ROFUS in their advertisements and DGA commented that more websites give ROFUS a prominent position on the screen. Players also have the option of elf-excluding from all gambling-related marketing via ROFUS.

How to Manually Self-Exclude in Denmark

The recent hiccup with NemID registration does not affect registered players and their exclusion still applies. Technical problems with online registration means that Danes must use the manual process to register. For the time being, this entails completing a form by hand and sending it to the DGA.

Follow the steps below to complete a manual ROFUS registration:

1. Access Spillemyndigheden’s website.
2. Select the menu drop-down section and click on ‘For The Public’.
3. Select the ROFUS option in the drop-down menu that appears.
4. Scroll down on the ROFUS page until you see the navy square with Form 9-01 written on it.
5. Click on ‘View PDF’ and wait for the document to open.
6. Complete the details on the 9-01 Exclusion From by hand and sign the provided area.
7. Submit the form electronically via Spillemyndigheden’s contact section or by post to the following address:

8. The receipt of your registration will be confirmed by ROFUS at the address you provided on the form.
